We went deep into this build—removing bumpers, mirrors, dashboard panels, and even the instrument cluster to ensure every component was installed and integrated to OEM spec. The result? Ever had that moment when you’re reversing out of a tight car park and can’t see what’s coming? Or glanced at your side mirror and missed a car sitting in your blind spot? With this retrofit, those risks drop dramatically. The VW Transporter Side Assist Retrofit adds radar-based detection on both sides of the van, delivering visual and audible alerts exactly when you need them.

What We Did to Make It Happen

This wasn’t a plug-and-play job. We started by removing the rear bumper to mount the radar sensors—one on each side of the van. These sensors are the heart of the system, constantly scanning for vehicles in adjacent lanes or approaching from behind while reversing.

From there, we routed wiring all the way to the front of the vehicle—neatly secured using factory channels, wrapped in Tesa cloth tape for a clean OEM finish. We removed the mirrors to install the LED blind spot indicators, then dismantled the dashboard and instrument cluster to access the necessary connections and integrate everything with the Body Control Module (BCM).
