We recently had the opportunity to work on an early model VW T5.1, transforming it with a series of upgrades that included the installation of an 087 BCM, a Multifunction Display (MFD), and cruise control, all expertly fitted in our Redditch workshop.

The project was particularly exciting as it involved a van registered in late 2009, making it the first of its kind we’ve tackled. The 087 BCM module is essential for adding cruise control to this model. We confirmed its compatibility by checking the part number through diagnostics and a physical inspection of the module sticker.

For VW T5.1 owners, the Multifunction Display (MFD) is a game-changer, offering enhanced interaction with the vehicle’s systems. It can be operated via the stalk or a multifunction steering wheel. However, many vans from late 2009 to mid-2010 come with basic instrument clusters that do not support steering wheel controls, necessitating operation via the stalk unless an upgrade to Highline clocks is planned.
