Fitting a full DAX Cobra audio retrofit meant starting from scratch—there just wasn’t anywhere to put a stereo or speakers without some serious custom work. 🚗🔧

Ever looked around your classic or kit car and thought, “Where on earth would a stereo even go?” That was exactly the challenge with this 1968 DAX Cobra Replica. No speaker grilles, no stereo slot, no wiring—just raw fibreglass and a whole lot of potential.

What We Did on This DAX Cobra Audio Retrofit

We built everything from the ground up—literally. Starting with custom door cards, we designed and fabricated them to fit perfectly into the Cobra’s minimal interior. Each one includes 3D-printed speaker pods and integrated door pockets, giving a factory-quality fit in a car that never had one to begin with.

For audio, we went with a quality setup that delivers crisp sound without overpowering the car’s classic character. JL Audio C2-650x coaxial speakers were mounted into those custom pods, fed by an Alpine KT-450 4-channel amplifier discreetly installed under the driver’s seat. All wiring was routed cleanly through both doors for a stealthy, OEM-style finish.

Since there’s no room for a head unit up front, we installed a JL Audio MBT-RXV Bluetooth receiver—just pair your phone and stream your favourite tunes. We also added a 12v socket with a USB adapter so you can charge your device on the go. ⚡🎶

Finishing Touches That Matter

The entire interior upgrade was wrapped in black Alcantara for a premium feel, while the door pockets were lined with black “Soft touch” 4-way stretch carpet to match. It’s the kind of detail that makes this DAX Cobra audio retrofit feel like it always belonged in the car.

Unlike modern vehicles, classic kits like this don’t come with wiring diagrams or plug-and-play solutions. Every wire was measured, routed, and tested by hand. We even used Tesa tape and OEM-style loom routing to maintain a clean finish behind the scenes.
